red across the page

30 Oct

The “how to” columns are typically one of my favorite articles to read in fashion magazines; however, that is not the reason I was drawn to this layout.  I think that the use of the red all across the page made this design so appealing to the eye.  I loved how the photograph that was used of the shoes has various red pumps scattered through out the multiple other shoes.  The red shoes are mixed in along with other neutral heels.  I think that this was very successful in taking the red, warm color to pop off the page.

The same red is then used subtly through out the rest of the design in the headlines and sub headlines.  They even used the red to add color to the text box with the bullets.  I think that this was a good way to keep the viewers eyes moving across the pages.  It also ties the three articles together because they all relate on the same spread.

The choice to use color was a very successful decision.  Red really pops off the page and attracts the viewer to read the headlines and then in turn want to read more.  I feel that red is the best possible choice for the designers pull off of through the page.
